A continuous often plied strand composed of either natural or man-made fibres or filaments and used in weaving and knitting to form cloth.
A device which stores a controlled amount of yarn between the supply package and a loom. Its purpose is to minimise tension variation in the yarn as it is unwound. At Shaw Lodge Mills, they use Weft Accumulators from the firm IRO, Sweden.
A device which cuts the yarn when the diameter or mass per unit length exceed set limits, usually mounted on a winding machine. Automated machinery then removes a set length either side of the cut and joins the two ends together again by Knotting or Splicing.
