A HALIFAX firm, John Holdsworth & Co Ltd of Shaw Lodge Mills, has won two gold medals in the International Trade and Fabric Exhibition, 1968, at Sacramento, California.
There was the indication at Shaw Lodge Mills today that the double success could well inaugurate a new export drive directed at the North American markets.
This is not the first time that John Holdsworth & Co Ltd of Halifax has made a mark with Halifax-designed and Halifax-produced fabrics at Sacramento. Eight years ago at a similar world show held to inaugurate a special State Fair, the firm received a gold medal.
At Shaw Lodge, a reporter was told "We are hoping that these successes will help us in the American markets in particular. We would like to do more on the North American continent."
Holdsworth's has had experience of the North American trade but mainly in Canada and in particular with the Canadian Pacific Railway.
Currently in exports the firm is mainly concerned with European markets especially those in the Scandinavian countries.
