FIFTY-THREE years' service at the Shaw Lodge Mills, Halifax of John Holdsworth & Co Ltd was recognised this week when Mr. Ernest Oddy, spinning manager for the past 30 years received gifts on his retirement.
Expressing his appreciation of Mr. Oddy's long and loyal association with the firm Mr. William Holdsworth, managing director, who presented a gold watch from the management, said Mr. Oddy had worked for three generations of his family.
His services had been a great asset during the half-century, which had seen many changes in working conditions and development of the firm in both good and bad times.
Mrs. Lily Anderson, who has been 50 years at the mills, presented an electric kettle on behalf of the spinning department, and Mr. Oddy also received a rug a clock from Mr. Herbert Whitaker on behalf of staff and colleagues.
Mr. Oddy, of 138 Green Park Road, was an overlooker before being appointed spinning manager. He is a memeber of Halifax Parish Church.
His successor is Mr. Paul Woodhead.
