It became abundantly clear from day one that the bridleways in this area are very well maintained, broad, grassy and quite suitable to accommodate large numbers of riders at slow and fast pace. Although the weather was poor for the time of year, we managed to fit the riding in-between the rain storms on all days but the last, when we were well and truly drenched and showered in hailstones in several thunderous storms.
The accommodation was very comfortable in well-equipped cottages, each furnished with every appliance one could possibly wish for, includung clothes and dish washers, video/DVD players and libraries of books, films etc.
The catering was well up to the mark with good wholesome food. We started each day with an ample 'full English' choice of Andy's 'Dolores' sausages, bacon, eggs, beans and toast on hot plates, cooked to order by Chris and Ruby.
To their great credit, sincere thanks to everyome involved in organising this successful Camp.

On arrival Saturday evening 18th July, the horses were let loose in a sloping 42-acre (17 hectares) field, already occupied by a small herd of cattle. The farm buildings are positioned at the top and a small pond has been built half-way down the field. In the morning we found that overnight the horses had coraled the cattle herd into a tight pack on a hillock in the field. In true holiday mode from the start, Barney and Crisp had changed colour after a good roll in the iron-rich mud and good few cow-pats, so much easier and better value than using fake-tan or sunbeds!

Our first hack: North to Ranyard's Corner near Asterby, South-West to the Roman Road via Witchhole & Asterby Top Farm, returning East to Flintwood Farm along Roman Road via Asterby Grange, down A153, South Wold and up Sandy Lane.
Distance 12.2 km, 7.6 miles.

Our second hack: South on Sandy Lane, East Farm, East through Belchford Village, South on Furlong Lane, near Fulletby Village, East on bridleway past another East Farm, visiting Hoe Hill, turning North-East onto Tetford Road via the magnificent Holbeck Manor, through to the villages of Salmonby then Tetford, turning West onto Platts Lane bridleway, then Lowfield Lane through Belchford and return to Flintwood Farm up Sandy Lane.

The weather turned downhill and it poured with rain most of the day. We had to call the farrier/blacksmith to shoe a couple of horses who was unable to attend until 4:00pm. He arrived on time, and the weather cleared up, so we managed a late hack from 5:00pm until 7:30.

Our third hack: West from Flintwood Farm along Roman Road past Asterby Grange, over Market Bridge, Stoupes Farm, sharp right North-Eastwards up Ranby Hill through Ranby Village, turning South through Ranby Grange to Roman Road and return East to Flintwood Farm.
Distance 15.5 km, 9.6 miles.

David and Holly bought a puppy Labrador, on the way back to Camp. Name 'Flint'.

Our final day:
A short hack: West from Flintwood Farm along Roman Road past Asterby Grange, turning South onto bridleway before Market Bridge, past Highfield House, turning sharply North-East up Green Lane at White House, towards Roman Road and return East to Flintwood Farm.
Distance 11.25 km, 7.0 miles.
We managed to get caught in a thunderous hailstorm on the way back to the farm; luckily this was the only wet weather riding we encountered during the whole week.

David and Holly collected their 'awe'-some pedigree Labrador puppy, 'Flint', and everyone started packing in preparation for the journey home, except Holly of course, who had been packed ready to go home as soon as the puppy deal was confirmed the previous evening!
